I appreciated Michael Medved's article about 'Proportional Warfare', and would like to make a few observations.
I start with the whole idea of 'Proportional Warfare'. Frankly one word comes to mind,'stupid'. Imagine the idea of playing a game of numbers, to keep the political dreamers happy. There really is no such thing, no matter how politically correct some would have us be.
War is AWFUL, AND DESTRUCTIVE, and it is the last resort, after everything else has been done. However, once war has been decided, the brutal reality is that we must seek to win quickly, and decisively. For that there is no substitute, as we learned in 'Vietnam' The enemy must be forced to give up as soon as possible, and all the necessary material to achieve that end should be readily available to our fighting units.
NEVER should our military personnel be sacrificed to appease anybody, be he politician, Hollywood 'Expert',or media wimp, who is opposed to victory,at home or abroad. If, and when, our young men and women are killed, or injured, it should be for the promotion of Justice, and the defence of 'These United States of America'. Incidently, I have a vested interest. My son and his wife are both in the USAF, my daughter's husband served in Desert Storm, and currently continues to protect, as a policeman.
The fact that we are at war usually means that the politicians, and statesmen/women, have been unsuccessful. The conduct of the fighting should be in the hands of the military, And, as 'Desert Storm' showed, the less interference by the talkers, the better.
Maybe the next thing will be 'Proportional Murder', or 'Proportional Rape', or Proportional Robbery. The whole idea seems to be preposterous.
Thanks Michael for an excellent article.
